Billie Hicks Oakes

Mrs. Shelby (Billie Hicks) Oakes, 87, of DeRidder, LA passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013.  She was born in Groveton, TX, September 17, 1926 to Horace Hicks and Anna Barton Hicks.  The family moved to Winnfield, LA when she was 5 years old.  Upon her marriage to Shelby, they made their home in DeRidder.  Mrs. Oakes was a member of First Baptist Church since 1951.  She was a former Sunday School teacher and Prayer Room coordinator.  She was a charter member of DeRidder Art Guild and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Beauregard Memorial Hospital.  Billie was always smiling, never complained, and was a positive influence on everyone she met.  Our loss is heaven’s gain.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Thomas Oakes of Shreveport, LA; daughters, Jennifer Spurlock and husband Bill of Shreveport, LA, Sharon Oakes of DeRidder, LA and Lori Oakes Boddie and husband Andrew of DeRidder, LA;  grandchildren, Trey Spurlock, Stephen Spurlock, Haley D. Stark, Zachary Daniels, Garrett Daniels, Cameron Boddie, Cade Boddie, T.J. Oakes, Shane Oakes and Sarah Cherry.  She was preceded in death by her husband, T. Shelby Oakes; parents, Horace and Anna Hicks; 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral in DeRidder, LA.  Visitation will be from 11:00am until 1:00pm, with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in Pine Island Cemetery in Sandy Hill, LA.  Rev. Lindsey Burns and Rev. Lynn Clayton will officiate.
