Betty Jo Story

October 20, 1932 — December 23, 2024

DeRidder, LA

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Jo Hooper Whiddon Story, who left us on December 23, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on October 20, 1932, in Libuse, Louisiana, Betty made her home in DeRidder, where she lived a life filled with love, faith, and laughter.

Betty was a lifelong hairstylist, dedicating an impressive 68 years and 5 months to her craft. She touched the lives of so many, always eager to lend a listening ear while making her clients feel beautiful. Her passion extended far beyond hairdressing; she was an enthusiastic member of the First Baptist Church of DeRidder, where she devoted herself to sharing the message of Jesus and the joy of being saved. Her faith shone brightly in all she did, and she loved people deeply.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Eddie Whiddon of DeRidder, LA; sister, Yvonne Carter of Tioga, LA; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dale Whiddon; two husbands, Edwin J. "Buddy" Whiddon and Dr. Paul Story; three sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of DeRidder, LA. Brother Steve Graves and Brother Carroll Walker Aycock (Nephew) will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Eddie Whiddon, Rex Aycock, Everett Porter, Daren Baron, Travis Hyghbaugh, Calvin Gordy.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Betty's remarkable life and the love she shared with all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of DeRidder, where she found solace and warmth in her faith community. The service will feature moments of reflection, shared stories, and an opportunity for everyone to come together to honor this wonderful woman who loved so fiercely.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Baptist Church in Betty's memory, a fitting tribute to one who cherished her faith and her community so deeply.

Betty Jo Story will be missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
