Bertha "Birdie" Bailey

Bertha Bailey at the age of 73 passed from this world to God's heavenly one on Friday, December 28th, 2013 at 2:55pm.

She was the beloved mother of six children, Edward Lee Painter of DeRidder, LA, James Lonnie Ferrin Painter and wife Deborah of Amelia, VA, Sheila Ann Martin of Chester, VA, Sherry Eileen Bernnett and husband Joe of Mechanicsville, VA, and Amy Oleta Joan Cranor of DeRidder, LA, beloved wife to L.C. Bailey and beloved grandmother. She is also survived by her sisters, Lucille Griffin of Singer, La and Ethel Hall of Anacoco, LA; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.  Bertha Bailey is preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Bailey; parents, Rier and Amy Pollard; grandson, Ricky Keel.  Bertha Bailey also loved like a daughter of her own, Linda Keel and her three daughters as grandchildren, Kristen Keel, Natosha and Sabrina Roberts. She adored her grandson Jonathan Dunn's wife Tina Dunn as a granddaughter too. A very special thanks go out to all these generous women who became her care givers just like her daughter Amy Cranor. The family would also like to mention her grandson, Ricky Keel, who supported her needs and loved her until his untimely passing in 2012.

Our mother and granny loved to sit at the table to tell stories of old', watch the birds chirp and sing, play card games and enjoy family gatherings. Birdie, as so many knew her by, loved to open her bible to be close to our Lord and study His world with her family and friends. Granny had a special talent given by God. For which we all enjoyed the song of her spirit sung for us. She always sang on our birthdays, old hymns and in her younger days she sang on stage. She will be missed by all for there were no strangers in her life. All came to love her as their own granny. The family appreciates all thoughts and prayers.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 and Tuesday, December 31, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Whitaker Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.  Bro. Al Gist and Bro. Buddy Freeman will officiate.
