Bernard “Bernie” Louis Davis, 87, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Friday, July 28, 2023.

Dad was always a hard worker and passed those work ethics down to his children, because when he worked hard, he expected you to, also.

He had a different sense of humor, maybe mountain humor, but he could definitely make you laugh, and in his humor, there were often bits of wisdom.

He was a sincere man and let you know that through his very firm handshake. He said that when he was growing up a handshake sealed many deals and a weak handshake meant you couldn’t be trusted or didn’t care. We grew up making sure we had a good grip when shaking someone’s hand.

Dad had a strong quiet faith in God. As a soybean farmer in his 50’s with a wife and two young children he lost everything as did so many other farmers in the 1980’s. But he stood strong and God blessed him with a good job and a wonderful boss. So good in fact, he ran heavy equipment into his 70’s.

He was always ready to stop and pray for anyone at any time no matter where he was.

God spared dad many times and blessed him with many wonderful friends and a long, rich life.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of sixty-six years, Norma Davis of DeRidder, LA; sons, James Ermel Davis and Roxanne of DeRidder, LA, John Dale Bernard Davis and Reneé of DeRidder, LA ; daughters, Teresa Davis of DeRidder, LA, Nita Willis and Mikel of Coffeyville, KS; brother, Daniel Davis and Dyanna of Cleveland, VA; sisters, Helen McReynolds and Juanita Campbell and Paul of Lebanon, VA; eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Davis; parents, Homer and Retha Davis; brothers, Jefferson Davis, Orville Davis; sister, Gail Adelstein.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, also at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church. Brother Jeff Phillips, Brother Ricky Wead and Brother John Davis will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Dustin Streets, Nicholas Burks, Atlas Davis, John Davis, Judah Davis, Landry Willis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kaleb Davis, Chris Stephens, Garrett Robertson, Clinton Willis. Private Burial will follow.
