Tony was never one to fit himself into a box and he lived his life wide open. For many, his brightness was too loud. But for those of us who could withstand his vivaciousness, we loved him fiercely. He loved us back with the same, or even more, voracity. Crass texts, calls, unexpected visits and gifts, he thought ahead and beyond what we knew we needed. Countless times he dropped what he was doing to run to the aid of anyone.
He often questioned why God had allowed this Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency to invade and destroy his body. Who can know the mind of God, but he would speculate, when he wasn’t angry about his situation, that this was God’s way of slowing him down. Since his diagnosis by Todd Warren around 2018, he had the opportunity that many never have – to tell and show those around him how he really felt about them. We got the apologies and we got to relive the good times. But he also became intentional about leaving behind a legacy that would maybe smooth out the unsavory memories. Rough around the edges and soft in the middle, through all his years of suffering and struggling, he still found ways to give. We are forever grateful that God gave us Tony to season our lives for nearly 49 years.
The Tales of Tony will be held on Monday November 11, 2024, from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 6:30pm with Pastor Joe Aymond officiating the service, in the chapel of Myers Colonial Funeral Home, followed by Open Mic. Bring your stories because we will celebrate all that was Tony. Cremation has been entrusted to Myers Colonial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, consider donating to a cause he fought as long as he could: The Alpha-1 Foundation at https://alpha1.org/ways-to-donate/. We would also like to thank nurses Tammy and Shannon at St. Joseph Hospice.
