Andy "Goober" Matthis

Andy “Goober” Matthis, 51, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at his home.  Goober was born May 4, 1962 in DeRidder, LA to Autwan and Bonnie Whittington Matthis.  He worked in the woods as a loader and skidder operator, then as a truck driver.  His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Goober is survived by his mother, Bonnie Johnson of DeRidder, LA; two sisters, Vickie Matthis (Joe Suire) and Debbie Matthis (Jackie Riffle) all of DeRidder, LA; two brothers, Danny Matthis (Jessica Cossey) of Merryville and Ricky Matthis of DeRidder, LA; three stepbrothers, Tommy Johnson and wife Christine of DeRidder, LA , Dwayne Johnson and wife Debbie of Pineville, LA, and Keith Johnson and wife Barbara of Cravens, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; four special friends, Ronnie Snapp, J.W. Jackson, Jr. (Junior), Roy Ashworth and Donald Goins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Autwan Matthis; stepfather, LeRoy Johnson; maternal grandparents, Robert and Ruby (Broxson) Whittington; paternal grandparents, David and Ada Matthis.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 2:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral services will be Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Hennigan Cemetery in Merryville, LA.
