We are heartbroken to share that Allen Waldon Sibley, affectionately known as "Doc," passed away on March 5, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on September 6, 1933, in Negreet, Louisiana, Doc was one of eight children of Vivian Cecil and Etta Mae Sibley. He graduated from Fairview High School before joining the U.S. Army, where he proudly served in the Chemical Corps during the Korean Conflict, stationed in South America. This experience sparked his passion for chemistry and set him on the path toward a fulfilling career.
After his service, Doc attended McNeese State University, earning a Bachelor's in Chemistry. He then attended Loyola University where he earned his Doctorate in Dentistry. He met and married the love of his life, Margaret Lois Jacobs, while attending McNeese. Together they raised four wonderful children in Merryville, Louisiana, where Doc opened his dental practice and served the community until his retirement in 1993.
But retirement didn't slow him down! Doc and Margaret turned their attention to their beloved cattle operation that they had started in 1964 when they moved to Merryville, raising Registered Beef Masters, before eventually transitioning their land to hay fields. Teaming up with his "hay partner," Jeffery Meadows, they produced quality hay for several years before Doc fully retired again.
In his later years, Doc took up writing to leave behind a legacy for his children and grandchildren, sharing stories about his life and their roots. He started writing on yellow legal pads but was soon convinced by one of his daughters to "try" using a computer. Though he thought he had forgotten how to type, he soon found that, as is often the case, it was just like riding a bike. With Margaret editing his work, he became a published author at the age of 77-something we all cherish.
Doc was also an avid elk and quail hunter and loved to fish. He dedicated many years as a Sunday School teacher and deacon at Merryville First Baptist Church. He lived his life fully, surrounded by family and friends, sharing his wisdom and love with those he met.
Doc is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Margaret Jacobs Sibley of Merryville, LA; sons, Allen Sibley and Patty of Merryville, LA, Joe Sibley and Kay Lynn of Refugio, TX; daughters, Denice Sibley Anderson and Alan of Greencove Springs, FL, Lisa Sibley Conner and Robert of Gillis, LA; brother, J.V. Sibley of Massillon, OH; sister, Mary Yarbrough of Perry, FL, Betty Lovvorn and Floyce of Decatur, AL, Bobbie Johnson of Pitkin, LA; grandchildren, Evan Sibley, Seth Sibley, Nicole Taylor and Kenneth, Savannah Sibley, Ryleigh Sibley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Cecil and Etta Mae Sibley; brother, Hobart Sibley; sisters, Glindle Speight, Imogene Hewitt, Juanice Whitaker.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home, with a public viewing starting at 9:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville, LA. Brother Jim Miers and Brother Steve Thomas will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Evan Sibley, Seth Sibley, Kenneth Taylor, Jeffery Meadows, Shannon Dougherty, Matt Jacobs.
We invite all who knew Doc to join us in honoring his life and legacy as we say our goodbyes. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Doc Sibley to the Alzheimer Association (act.alz.org)
