Alice Kay Evans Pontiff

Alice Kay Evans Pontiff was born on 16 October 1940 to Melvin Lynn Evans and Helen Thomas Granberry in Evangeline Louisiana.  She spent her youth in Oregon and then Berwick, Louisiana.  Alice attended Patterson High School where she met and married Merton A Yonge Jr.   The had one child, a son, named Merton A Yonge III who passed from this life, 29 June 2010.  Alice married Gary John Pontiff of Franklin, Louisiana almost 46 years ago, on 31 October 1975.  They had two children, Lydia Nadine Dunn (Andrew Henderson) of Cular, Canada and Matthew Taylor Pontiff of Rosepine, Louisiana.  Alice had three stepchildren which she loved as her own:  Anthony Wayne Pontiff who passed from this life, 23 August 2017; James Edward Pontiff of Luther, Oklahoma, and Tamara Faith Kindle (Tony) of Rutherfordton, North Carolina.

She has six grandchildren:   Mandy Collard; Dawn Harris (Josh); Errin George (Larry); Eric Pontiff; Jessica Lee; Megan Lee.

Alice also had six great grandchildren:  Hollie Collard; Braydon Collard; Emelia Collard; Gabe Harris; Adeline Harris; Waylon Pontiff.

Alice was a member of the Rosepine Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since 1977.  She was very active at church and in the Relief Society.  She dedicated many hours serving and ministering to anyone in need.  Alice was a faithful, compassionate, and positive person.  She accepted and loved everyone she met.  Alice always had a smile on her face and always looked for the best in every situation she faced.

Alice will be remembered as a faithful servant of our Heavenly Father and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.  May she rest in peace with the Lord!

The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who have called, written and visited during this difficult time.  A special thank you Mandy Skelton for the exceptional love and support you’ve shown Alice and the family!

Funeral service will be Monday, August 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. 1st Counselor Robert Marshall will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Michael Evans, Warren Evans, Anthony Kindle, Matthew Pontiff, Tamara Pontiff Kindle and Mandy Skelton. Burial will follow at Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, LA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alice’s name to the Humane Society.
